IN SCBWI is pleased to offer a series of roundtable events led by industry professionals in 2023 FREE of charge to Indiana members (you must reside in Indiana). This one is with agent Ammi-Joan Paquette of Erin Murphy Literary Agency.

Ammi-Joan Paquette is a senior agent with Erin Murphy Literary Agency, representing all types of children’s and YA literature. She is also the author of the novel The Train of Lost Things; many picture books including All from a Walnut, Mucky Truck, and Ghost in the House; and, co-authored with Laurie Ann Thompson, the “nonfiction with a twist” series, Two Truths and a Lie. In her agent acquisitions, Joan is particularly drawn to richly voiced, unforgettable characters and settings, as well as tightly-paced, well-plotted stories with twists and turns that keep you guessing right until the end. Visit her on the web at: ajpaquette.com

How the roundtable works:

After registering on this page, please submit the up to 1,000 words of a picture book manuscript as a properly formatted Word document by August 24, 2023. You will be asked to upload your document to a Jotform which you will receive a link to after registration. Joan will provide written feedback which we will return to you in a private Google Drive link before the Zoom roundtable on October 7th.

You will get only one final warning on the submission due date. If you don’t send in your pages within 24 hours after the due date, you will forfeit your spot to someone else on the waitlist.

Attendees are asked to read the manuscripts of all 7 other participants so they might understand Joan’s feedback for each person. They are not expected to provide critiques for anyone.

During the Zoom roundtable, Joan will spend 15 minutes on each person when they can ask questions about the feedback.

The Zoom link to the event will be sent to you by 6pm the night before from ARA Alicia Novo. Please check your spam box if you can’t find it.

Query opportunity

You will receive instructions on how to query Ammi-Joan in an email that will be sent to you along with a recording of the event by October 9 or 10.
