Description:

What Happens After the Ink has Dried?

The publishing world is a daunting one, and Sharon Biggs Waller will take you step by step through each phase as your story becomes a book. During this session, Sharon will draw back the publishing world’s curtain to discuss how agents submit manuscripts, how they negotiate advances and contracts, and what happens once your book is sold to a publisher from editing to cover art to marketing. You’ll learn what to anticipate from your debut and sophomore novels, how much support to expect from your publisher, and how to remain sane during the entire process (read: stay away from Goodreads!). Publishing can be hard and fraught with emotional pitfalls. Knowing what to expect can help you create a successful career. And who wouldn’t want that?

~~~~~~~~~~
Co-RAs Diane Bradley-Kantor and Teresa Robeson are excited to offer a series of four webinars given by our region’s talented PAL members. These webinars are offered free of charge to all SCBWI members and with a small fee of $10 for non-members.
Our last, but certainly not least, speaker is author Sharon Biggs Waller:
Sharon Biggs Waller is the Friends of American Writers award winning author of the critically acclaimed young adult novels The Forbidden Orchid, A Mad, Wicked Folly, and Girls on the Verge. She writes for magazines about horses, chickens, and farming, and she’s a co-author of The Original Horse Bible. Previously, she worked as a riding instructor at the Royal Mews in Buckingham Palace. In addition to writing, she is a dressage rider and trainer, a fiber artist, and a Planned Parenthood clinic escort. She lives on a 10-acre sustainable hobby farm in a ghost town in Northwest Indiana with her husband Mark, two horses, twelve dairy goats, four cats, two dogs, twenty laying hens, and a gaggle of geese.
Sharon’s latest book Girls on the Verge, April, 2019, was nominated for the 2020 Young Adult Library Services Association Best Fiction for Young Adults, a Cosmopolitan Best New Book of 2019, a Bustle Top 35 Books of Spring, an Amazon Number One New Release in Teen & Young Adult Theater Fiction.
EXTRA! Critiques available:
