IN SCBWI is pleased to offer a series of roundtable events led by industry professionals in 2023 FREE of charge to Indiana members (you must reside in Indiana). This one is with editor, Ashley Hearn.
Ashley Hearn (she/they) is an acquisitions editor at Peachtree Publishing. She’s edited numerous award-winning and bestselling authors including New York Times bestseller Andrew Jospeh White (Hell Followed with Us), Sydney Taylor Notable Book honoree R.M. Romero (The Ghosts of Rose Hill), and TIME magazine “Best Fantasy Novels of All Time” nominee Isabel Ibañez (Woven in Moonlight). When she steps away from her desk, she can be found wandering the North Georgia mountains, swing longswords at her HEMA fencing club, or haunting a local coffee shop. How the roundtable works:
After registering on this page, please submit the first 10 pages of a middle grade or young adult manuscript as a properly formatted Word document by April 20, 2023. You will be asked to upload your document to a Jotform which you will receive a link to after registration. Ashley will provide written feedback which will be returned to you in a private Google Drive link before the Zoom roundtable on June 3rd.
You will get only one final warning on the submission due date. If you don’t send in your pages within 24 hours after the due date, you will forfeit your spot to someone else on the waitlist.
Attendees are asked to read the manuscripts of all 7 other participants so they might understand Ashley’s feedback for each person. They are not expected to provide critiques for anyone.
During the Zoom roundtable, Ashley will spend 15 minutes on each person where they can ask questions about the feedback.
The Zoom link to the event will be sent to you by 6pm the night before from ARA Alicia Novo. Please check your spam box if you can’t find it.
