Time: 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. EST

Zoom Info:

* Your link to join the live webinar will be sent by 6:00 p.m. EST March 12, 2021 (the day before the event).

We are delighted to host versatile and talented editor Erin Siu for the first of our “Grow With the Pros” webinars! Not only will Erin share her wisdom during this event, but she is also offering paid critiques and there is a submission opportunity to her afterwards. Macmillan is usually closed to un-agented submissions.

Erin Siu is an Associate Editor at Macmillan Children’s Publishing Group, where she oversees MCPG’s paperback imprint, Square Fish, and acquires and edits picture books, middle-grade and young adult for Feiwel & Friends. She has a soft spot for stories about multicultural experiences, family relationships, and first love, and she’s worked on several children’s books including, Have You Eaten? by Su Youn Lee, You Are Enough by Jen Petro-Roy, and The Secret Recipe for Moving On by Karen Bischer. Before joining MCPG, she studied Comparative Literature and Music at NYU. She grew up in California surrounded by redwood trees and constantly wonders why she doesn’t still live there. Check out her wish list or find her on Twitter: @erinssiu

EXTRA! Critiques available:

Erin Siu is offering written critiques at $45 each. If you would like to purchase a critique, you need to do so at the time of registration though you don’t have to send it until February 1, 2021. They will be completed and returned to you by March 31, 2021.

Please send the following as a single attachment to Diane Bradley-Kantor, indiana-ra@scbwi.org in an email by February 1, 2021:

1) A short cover/query letter including a brief author bio.

2) For picture book submissions, a Word doc of the entire text and/or dummy (either as Word doc or PDF) not to exceed 10 pages.

3) For longer works (novel/poetry collection/nonfiction that is not a PB), ten pages of text; if you want to include a story summary, please make it only one page and then add 9 pages of the manuscript.

4) Please put “Erin Siu Critique” in the subject line of your email and label your attachment as “INSCBWI_TITLE OF MS_last name” e.g. “INSCBWI_MY STORY_Robeson”

The critiques will be completed by the end of March, and Diane will email the feedback to you.

Submission* opportunities:

All attendees will have an opportunity to submit to Erin. The specific submission information will be emailed, along with the link to the replay, to attendees post-conference.

*Submission is the publishing terminology for sending an editor something to consider for publication. Macmillan is normally closed to unsolicited submissions so this is an excellent opportunity to get your work to an editor who is otherwise unavailable to unagented stories. Submission does not mean “paid critique” of which there is only a limited number (20).
